AI Search Visibility (GEO): How to Get Your Business Found in ChatGPT & Google AI Overviews

The short answer: More of your customers now get their answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews than from a list of blue links. Getting your business cited inside those AI answers is called GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) or AEO (Answer Engine Optimization). It's not a nice-to-have anymore — Google's "People Also Ask" is now almost entirely AI-generated, and about half of B2B buyers start their research inside an AI chatbot. Here's how it works, and how to actually get found.

A prospect told me last month he'd "researched three agencies" before our call — and he'd never opened Google. He asked ChatGPT. That's the shift, in one sentence: if the AI doesn't mention you, you don't exist to that buyer. Here's what's happening and what to do about it.

What is AI search — and what are GEO and AEO?

When someone types a question into ChatGPT, Perplexity, or sees Google's AI Overview at the top of the results, an AI writes the answer and cites a handful of sources. Being one of those cited sources is the whole game.

  • GEO (Generative Engine Optimization): optimizing so generative AI engines quote and cite your content.
  • AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): the same idea, framed around "answer engines."

Same goal, different acronym: be the answer, not just a link.

Why this is urgent in 2026 (not next year)

The ground has already moved:

  • Google's "People Also Ask" boxes are now ~97–100% AI-generated, up from around 12% a year earlier. The fastest-growing part of the results page is now AI-written.
  • Roughly half of B2B buyers now begin vendor research inside an AI chatbot more often than Google — and a large share call AI search their primary source.

Classic tricks — chasing featured snippets, stuffing keywords, buying links — do less and less. If your business isn't structured to be quoted by an AI, you're invisible in the part of search that's growing fastest.

SEO vs GEO vs AEO: what's the difference?

You don't replace SEO — you extend it. Here's how they compare:

| | SEO | GEO / AEO | |---|---------|----------------| | Goal | Rank a page in the blue links | Get cited inside an AI answer | | Who reads it | A human scanning results | An AI summarizing an answer | | Wins with | Keywords, backlinks, authority | Clear answers, sourceable facts, structure, brand mentions | | Measured by | Rankings, clicks | Citations/mentions in AI answers | | Still matters? | Yes | Yes — increasingly |

How do you get your business cited by AI answers?

This is the practical part. AI engines favour content they can lift a clean, attributable answer from:

  1. Answer the question directly, up top. Lead each page with a 2–4 sentence answer an AI can quote verbatim.
  2. Use real, sourceable facts — numbers, dates, comparisons, definitions. AI cites specifics, not fluff. (Never invent them.)
  3. Structure clearly — question-style headings, short paragraphs, tables, lists. Machines parse structure.
  4. Add schema/structured data so engines understand what your page is.
  5. Build brand mentions and authority — the more your business is talked about across the web, the more AI trusts and cites it.
  6. Make sure your content is server-rendered — most AI crawlers don't run JavaScript, so anything loaded by script is invisible to them.

What most agencies in Morocco get wrong

A few local agencies have started selling "AI visibility" as a content add-on. That's fine — but it's half the picture. GEO isn't just writing; it's engineering: structured data, AI-answer monitoring, citation tracking, and automation that keeps it current. That's the half a marketing-only shop can't deliver — and the half we're built for.
